View over the rooftops of Murazzano towards the hills of Alta Langa

Another Rhythm

Some places do not change a person. They change the rhythm of a day.

Another Rhythm

Some places do not change a person. They change the rhythm of a day. In the morning, the windows are open. From the parish church of San Lorenzo, the bells carry over the rooftops of Murazzano. Down in Via Lorenzo Bruno there is still little movement. A neighbour sweeps the street, someone opens the shutters, another person walks towards the piazza with a shopping bag.

The walk to Rosalba's bakery takes less than five minutes. The bread is still warm on the way back. In front of Bar Gianduja, the first espresso cups already stand on the small tables. At Viola Tabacchi, the newspapers are already on the shelf. People greet one another. Not because they arranged to meet. But because they know one another. Not because they have to. But because here, many things happen naturally.

Between History and Everyday Life

The house stands where Murazzano has grown over centuries. Just above it, the walls of the former Ricetto recall the village's origins. A few steps further on, the old church of Sant'Anna from the 16th century and the parish church of San Lorenzo from the 14th century share this particular place. Between them are narrow lanes, natural stone, old houses and an everyday life that moves more slowly than elsewhere. Via della Parrocchia is so narrow that a car almost seems like a visitor. Via Lorenzo Bruno leads quietly out of the historic centre. Between them stands this house. A house that is not on the edge of the village. But in the middle of its life.

A House That Follows the Hill

From the small space in front of the church of Sant'Anna, you enter the house at street level. Only inside do you understand what makes it special. Murazzano was built on a hill. This house follows it. What looks from outside like a ground floor is already high above the village rooftops once you are inside. The entrance leads directly into the generous living area. The round fireplace does not stand against a wall, but in the centre of the room. The kitchen opens beside it and connects both sides of the house. Almost every day ends here.

Below the living room, further levels lead deep into the slope. There is another living room with a fireplace, additional utility rooms, the boiler room, the wine cellar and the large garage. Upstairs are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Above them is the still unfinished attic: a place full of possibilities. More rooms could be created. Or a terrace, where the view reaches across the rooftops to the hills and, on clear days, all the way to the Alps. This house is not finished. It leaves room for its next residents to imagine it further.

A Place for Evenings Together

There are houses with many rooms. And there are houses that bring people together again and again. Here, it happens almost by itself. Family, friends or guests: at some point, everyone sits in the large living room. In winter the fire is burning. In summer the windows are open, and from outside the bells, voices and footsteps from the lanes mingle with the conversation. Everyone finds their place. And yet the evening usually ends together.

A House That Wants to Be Continued

For many years, this house belonged to a cousin of Gabriele. Gabriele and Carmen also live in Murazzano themselves. They know not only this house, but also the people, the neighbours and the rhythm of the village. Now they would like to pass the house on. Not to the first interested buyer. But to someone who can imagine arriving here. Someone who opens the windows in the morning. Who hears the bells. Who greets Rosalba on the way to the bakery. Who stops for an espresso at Bar Gianduja. Who buys a newspaper at Viola's and exchanges a few words with the neighbours. At some point, a visitor becomes a neighbour. And a house becomes a home.

Not Everyone Is Looking for This Kind of Place

Many people wish for more quiet. But not everyone really wants to live it. Murazzano is not a place for hurry. Here, you know the baker. Here, you know the people behind the counter. Here, you know the man who sweeps the small square in the morning. Here, people greet one another. Here, the seasons change more clearly than the streets. Perhaps that is the true value of this house.

Not the square metres. Not the fireplace. Not the wine cellar. Not even the view. But the chance to become part of a village that has kept its own rhythm. Because a house can be bought. Neighbourhood has to be given as a gift. In Murazzano, the two belong together. There are houses you can visit. And there are houses where you suddenly catch yourself thinking about your future life. Perhaps the difference is not in the house. Perhaps it is in the place. Or in the people who fill it with life every day. Gabriele and Carmen are not looking for someone who simply takes over this house. They hope for someone who will leave their own traces here.
